About
Xu Zhongmin 許仲敏 catalogue was published in conjunction with Xu Zhongmin's solo exhibition at Today Art Museum, Beijing. It highlights his recent sculptures and immersive installations that incorporate light technology and mechanical movement to produce spectacular optical effects. Citing Tibetan Buddhist rituals as a major source of inspiration, the artist depicts in his works hordes of figures scuttling forwards, upwards, or round and round in circles. Xu's wide-ranging oeuvre also encompasses woodblock prints, film, installation and performance. Time, the cycle of life and the deep spiritual drive of humanity are some of the themes that run through his work. This volume includes some of the artist's earlier works from 2002 onwards. Artist's résumé provided.
Katie Hill, Director of the Office of Contemporary Chinese Art, contributed to the catalogue writing an essay, titled Locating the Work of Xu Zhongmin.
